“…came blowin’ in, from across the sea…”Oh my goodness! Where has the summer gone? I can’t believe we’re closing in on August. I’m moving in a week. One week from today, I will be the proud resident of a new apartment. Whoo hoo! It has two bedrooms, a giant bathroom, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fireplace, deck, and best of all – counter space!! No longer will I have to bake cookies in a tiny little oven and then stack them on top of one another. I will have more than one drawer in my kitchen. I won’t have to schlup laundry up and down stairs or to and from the Laundromat. I will have a place to put my dirty dishes! I am beyond excited!! My domestic-goddess-self is kicking in and making plans. Apparently I’m hosting Thanksgiving this year, so it’s a good thing I have a bigger place. I couldn’t imagine trying to cram a turkey into my current 10”x 10” x 11” oven…
It’s been quite a busy summer (if you hadn’t noticed by my lack of blognicity). Arizona was AMAZING. Hot, but still amazing. The Grand Canyon pretty much terrified me, but in a good way. Chicago was fantastic! I took in a Cubs game, wandered around the Art Institute, and spent some quality time with my friends. Oh and of course ate yummy food.
The floodwaters receded and left a huge mess of Iowa City. It’s sad to walk around my neighborhood. But I know we’ll rebound. We’re Iowans.
My psych class is going well. I’ll take my final exam on Friday. I’ve registered to take the GRE in a couple of weeks. The thing that kind of sucks is that two of the schools I’m applying to also require the MAT (Miller Analogy Test) which is 120 questions of analogies. It’s freakin’ hard! So I’ve been studying up for that, too. I think I’ll probably take that exam in September or October. Later in August I’ll start courses in developmental psych and social psych. That should be quite the challenge on top of the full time job and teaching yoga. I like challenges, though.
In September my friend Ben is getting married in Seattle. So the whole gang of us will fly out for the wedding. Ben’s parents have even rented a house for everyone to stay in while we’re there. I’m excited since Seattle is one of the places I’m looking at for grad school. It will be nice to at least visit the city. Not to mention seeing a great friend embark on one of the biggest adventures life has to offer!
Ugh, well sorry about the laundry list of life events. Hopefully some deep, meaningful entries are ahead. I’ve been watching a lot of movies and reading some good books, so inspiration should be just around the corner. I’m also still trying to get some stuff done in the studio, but admittedly, school, yoga and a certain handsome young med student are taking precedence right now…
Peace and Love
