Sock It to Me!

Well, here I am back at my cozy little desk at work. I managed to survive the holidays no worse for wear and have settled in for a couple of days of dog-sitting before trekking off to A-town to visit Miss Meliss and the fabulous Ma and Pa Hueting. My holiday travels are only partially over. Although, we are forecasted to get more snow today…tomorrow…Sunday...possibly Monday...

So it’s a good thing I received some fabulously comfy new snow boots from Santa—along with 14 pairs of socks! You see, my New Year’s resolution (one of the many) is to no longer wear ankle-high athletic socks to work every day. It’s time for me to be a grownup and stop visually offending my co-workers and patients with glaringly white socks peeking out from my pantlegs and shoes. (Sometimes if I wear the super-short ones, you get a peek of ankle. HOT!) The beautiful combination of argyle, wool, cotton and trouser socks should keep my tootsies warm and in style for months to come.

Tired of constantly paying late fees or buying DVDs, I succumbed to the seductive appeal of Netflix. This is not good. I might have to cancel my gym membership and shut down the art studio because I most likely will never leave my couch, let alone my apartment. It’s reminiscent of when I worked at Movie Gallery and had 3 free rentals a day. Molly plus an unlimited number of movies is never a good combination. But we’ll see how it goes. My first selections included Blood Diamond and The Last King of Scotland. To lighten things up, I finished with Waitress. All were very different. All were most excellent.

Mom even sat down and watched The Last King of Scotland with me. She liked it, which surprised me because it didn’t star Sandra Bullock or George Clooney and there wasn’t a mystery to solve or romance to watch. But she liked it. We actually ended up having several conversations about it and even researched Idi Amin. I like making my mom think outside the box sometimes.

I went home for a few days before Christmas. We went out for my dad’s birthday and I saw some of my friends from home. (I even got to hear an acoustic guitar version of “Hit Me Baby One More Time”…thanks Chris and Greg!) We normally go to my Uncle Mike’s house for Christmas Eve (and dine on all kinds of deliciousness) but alas they had the flu, so we made a homemade pizza and watched It’s a Wonderful Life before heading to Spencer for midnight mass. We drove down to Des Moines on Christmas day to see Paul and Rachel and Nick. Christmas with my bro and his fam was lovely. We didn’t do anything too fancy this year. Paul and I didn’t even go see our traditional Christmas night movie. We stayed at home instead. We were definitely all lazy bums…except for Nick. He never stops.

I won’t bore anyone with too many of the details of gifting and such. I did want to share this painting that I did for my mom…She’s been asking me for a painting of an Eastern Goldfinch (Iowa’s state bird) for years. I finally sat down and did it. I think she liked it…I gave quite a few handmade gifts this year. I really like crawling through art festivals and craft fairs, (yes, crawling. It takes me a very long time to shop at those things) so all y’all better expect handmade gifts in the future!

So that’s the humdrum account of Christmas 2007. I’m most definitely looking forward to spending New Year’s with Miss Meliss and her friends. I love meeting new people!

Cheers.
