It’s spring! Yippee! This is by far my favorite time of year. I love watching everything turn green. I love the flowers on the trees and the tulips starting to peek out of the ground. I love the way the air changes and how you can smell when a thunderstorm is coming. Spring rain is by far one of my favorite things. I always think of Gene Kelly soft shoeing through puddles while dancing with an umbrella. I sometimes do that myself when no on is around. You can’t beat rain! I also love leaving my windows open at night and listening to the birds chirping when the sun comes up in the morning. I love hearing lawnmowers and the smell of my neighbors grilling burgers…Horray for spring!
I think I also love spring because my birthday’s in May. This year I will actually be dog sitting on my birthday. So Petra the Pomeranian and Sydney the Portuguese water dog and I will be partying in style. I’m looking forward to dog sitting. I love animals and can’t have any furry pets at my building, so it’s fun to take care of other people’s animals (and get paid for it!). Speaking of pets, I’m thinking about actually taking that big step and becoming responsible for another living creature. Yes. I think I’m going to get a fish. I had some goldfish and some Mollie fish when I was a kid. But something went wrong with the filter in the fish tank and they all died. (I remember the water being all black and the fish were floating in it. It was very traumatic.) My brother once had a huge goldfish, but it died too. My family doesn’t have very good luck with fish. But I’m going to give it another try. I think I can do it. I’ll let you know.
A group of my friends are getting ready to go camping on Memorial Day weekend. I went camping with them last year and had an incredible time. My canoe got submerged under a huge log. I was trapped between the canoe and the log and kept banging against both of them and Jason, my canoe buddy, was swept downstream. It finally took Kenny Kessler, aka The Hulk/Superman/Wolverine, to push across the river and carry me, like a monkey, on his back across to the riverbank. But it was AWESOME! I love camping. I love canoeing. I love anything to do with water, actually. I get really sad in Iowa City in the summertime. That’s when I miss Okoboji the most. You just can’t beat NW Iowa in the summertime. Ah well. I’m sure I’ll make it up there for a visit or two.
My friends are also planning on trekking to Illinois this fall for the Iowa vs. NU game at Soldier Field. And then of course, I will be going to Ames to get my drink on with the Byersdorfer clan for the IA vs. ISU game. I can’t wait! I think my next favorite season after spring is fall…because of all of the football…and the grilling. Mmmm. Grilling.
Peace and Love
