Fall Recap 2008

These blog entries seemed to have become a seasonal occurrence, rather than a weekly one as I originally intended. There’s so much I want to write about, but I afraid of boring you with long-winded blogging. Here is a short rundown of everything that’s happened since I wrote my last update in September:

1) CI Picnic
The cochlear implant picnic was a huge success. The day was 80 degrees and insanely windy (Melissa and Matt actually saw a child blow over from the wind), but everyone had a great time. The drumline was adorable and the balloon artist was a hit with both young and old. I was very pleased and have adamantly vowed never to plan anything that big ever again.

2) Yoga
So, apparently I’m a fantastic teacher. Who knew? All these years I’ve resisted teaching anything and now that I’m teaching yoga, I find that not only am I good at it, I actually enjoy it. Evidently I’m so good that I was offered a regular teaching gig once a week back in October. This week, the gym contacted me to see if I’ll teach another class on a regular basis. Maybe I’ll drop this grad school thing and open my own yoga/painting studio! (not really)

3) Classes
I am so close to being done. I took one final before Thanksgiving and will take the other one next week. Thankfully I’m only taking abnormal psych next semester, so school should calm down. I’ve been very overwhelmed this fall.

3) Grad School
I’ve submitted two applications and will finish the other three soon. I’ll be traveling to Virginia in January and will hopefully get to visit at EVMS. Man…just applying is expensive, though. Of course I chose to do it in the middle of a major economic slump…silly Molly!

4) Holidays
Halloween was a blast! Matt dressed up as Brenton and scared/entertained us all with his dead-on impersonation. I was Marilyn Monroe…a rather boring costume, if you ask me. But I didn’t have much time or money to come up with anything too creative.

Thanksgiving ended up being at Paul and Rachel’s this year. The day was incredibly low-key. Nick and John and I played soccer and Frisbee outside while the moms cleaned up. That night Paul and I went to our traditional Thanksgiving movie – this year was Quantum of Solace…Daniel Craig…sigh.

Christmas will be at the ‘rents house this year since it’s Bob’s 70th birthday. I have nifty gifties planned for everyone. You should see my apartment…Twinkle lights abound, icicles dangle from my eaves and the stockings are hung with oh such care over the fireplace. Bing Crosby, Charles Dickens and Santa himself would be proud.

5) The Boy
Matt and I have finally met (most of) each other’s families. The meetings went well. He’s off now to Colorado and Seattle and Atlanta for interviews. I won’t see him until the middle of January. But then we hit the road to Virginia…and we all know my love of road trips…Plus we’ll be in Baltimore on inauguration day. It will be CRAZY!

6) Miss Meliss & Mo
We had our annual Christmas Bonanza, attending the holiday thieves’ market and the local performance of The Nutcracker with lots of yummy food and wine mixed into the day and evening. Who could ask for a better friend? Plus I finally met her beau, Andy, and I’m pleased to report that he is worthy of her attentions.

7) Work
Work is stressful. There’s a lot going on right now that I wish we didn’t have to deal with. But I’ll just try to go with the flow and not get too discouraged. All I can say is that I love the women I work with…they are so awesome!

Well, there you have it – the Cliff’s Notes version of Fall 2008. I promise to try and do better in the upcoming months.

Peace and Love
