Too Bored to Think Up a Clever Title...

Here it is, another day in the good doctor’s office. The phones have been relatively quiet. Even though this is the zone of nonproductivity, I have managed to schedule a cochlear implant surgery and finished our research project’s continuing review for the University human subject’s office. I also helped out my co-worker in tracking down a suspicious airline charge that was made to the department credit card for $2,000. It was fraudulent! Those sneaky pirates, scamming our money. I also scanned our grant’s progress report and attached it to a file I’m working on. So I guess the day wasn’t in vain.

But…I also researched the 2008 presidential candidates and checked out online sales at J. Crew and Banana Republic. So…yeah. An equal balance of nonsense and business. I’ve been taking personality quizzes online today, too. So far I’ve found out that I’m an extrovert, I’m loyal to a fault and have a difficult time falling in love, but once I do, it’s forever. My musical tastes indicate that I am politically liberal. If I was alive in medieval times, I would be a Minstrel, because I am a dreamer who puts a positive spin on everything. If I was ice cream, I would be coffee flavored, because I’m motivating. If I was a cookie, I would be jam-filled—plain on the outside, surprising and sweet on the inside. The Star Wars character I’m most like is Yoda. If I was a Simpsons character, I would be Lisa, and the “Friends” character I’m most like is Rachel. I took a very interesting quiz at BBC.com to find out if I’m good at detecting a fake smile or not. Apparently, I am. (here it is if you’re interested. The secret is to look at the people’s eyes as they smile. A real smile always crinkles at the corners of the eyes.) So beware, all of you fake smilers out there, I’m on to you…

Last night I babysat Miss Adelaide for the first time. (If you’re unsure who Adelaide is, please refer to my entry on dog sitting for the full story…) I spent the evening trying to catch lightning bugs, eating Freezy Pops, and playing dress up. Oh my God! I forgot how much fun it was to be seven years old. We also played Connect Four. Can you beat that? Seriously? This little girl is a delight. Sure, she jumped from subject to subject and I had no idea of the names of the cast of High School Musical 2, but at the end of the evening when I went to leave and she threw her arms around me and begged me to come back soon, I knew I had made a wonderful friend.

Oh, why oh why can’t I get over this cold? I haven’t been this sick since my senior year of college. Man, that was brutal. It was during the end of the semester and I couldn’t take a break to be sick. I remember going to a final exam after having taken TheraFlu and cough medicine. I was shivering and sweating through the entire thing. I have no idea what I wrote on that essay exam, but it got me an A. Why do students do that to themselves? Yucky!

Well, it looks like I’m in for another night laying low on my couch. Hopefully I’m feeling better by tomorrow night. I’m supposed to go out for martinis with my neighbor. And Friday night is beers with my girls from work followed by the concert series on the Ped Mall with my gay boyfriend. And hopefully this weekend I’ll be up for moving into that awesome new studio…I should also probably pay a visit to Pat and Kim. I haven’t seen them in ages and ages. I miss my Kim Coe!

Peace and Love
